The Broad General Education (BGE) is an important stage in your child’s learning, as it provides the foundation for everything that follows. During this time, your child will be supported to develop a wide range of skills, knowledge and attributes that will help them thrive and succeed both in school and beyond.

At Calderside Academy, we provide a carefully planned BGE that supports our pupils to make steady and secure progress through the Curriculum for Excellence levels.

National guidance helps teachers understand what young people should know and be able to do at each stage of their learning. Through a range of classroom experiences and assessments, we gather evidence of your child’s progress. When they show a broad understanding and can apply their skills in different situations, we can be confident they are ready to move forward to the next level in their learning journey.
