What is Gateway?

Gateway is a targeted inclusion provision within Calderside Academy designed to support pupils who experience barriers to attending school, engaging in learning, or maintaining wellbeing. Pupils are supported through bespoke plans, helping them engage positively with learning and school life. Gateway support is planned and delivered by staff and is regularly reviewed in partnership with pupils and families.

Who is Gateway for?

Gateway supports pupils who may be finding aspects of school difficult due to attendance, engagement, emotional wellbeing, or other barriers to learning. Support is planned around individual needs.

What does a typical Gateway plan look like?

Each pupil has a bespoke timetable. This may include time in Gateway, mainstream classes, small-group or individual support, wellbeing activities, vocational courses or supported learning time. Timetables are designed to meet individual needs and are kept under review.

Where does Gateway support take place?

Support may take place in various spaces within the school or in community settings.

Who works with my child in Gateway?

Gateway support is delivered by a dedicated team, working alongside wider school staff and partner services where appropriate, including the campus police officer, school librarian, and Youth, Family and Community Learning (YFCL) staff.

How does a pupil access Gateway?

Decisions are made collaboratively by staff, based on a pupil’s needs, and in discussion with families where appropriate.
