Return to School
Dear parent/carer
I hope you and your family have enjoyed the summer break and made the most of the excellent summer weather.
As you will already be aware there are some relaxations of Covid-19 restrictions across Scotland but not within educational settings. We have been asked by the government to maintain our previous mitigations to reduce any spread of the virus for a further six weeks, when there will be a further review.
With this in mind, we will continue to operate our double period, odd and even week timetable system, implemented in June, for the next 6 weeks. (This approach will be explained to new S1 pupils by Registration Teachers on Monday morning)
I share some other information with you in a question and answer format where I have tried to anticipate some of the questions you may ask. The answers are based on where we are now with our Covid-19 guidance.
Q1 Who will be in school and when?
All pupils will return to school on Monday 16 August 2021.
S1 pupils should remain in the Street when the bell rings at 8.50am where their registration teacher will collect them and take them to their classroom. Registration teachers will explain double periods to S1 pupils on Monday morning. Details of register class can be found below.

Q4 What happens at interval and lunchtime?
Pupils will remain outside unless there is inclement weather, where access to the Street will be available. School lunches will be provided as normal. S2-S6 will be able to leave the school grounds for lunch if they wish but must follow our hand sanitising protocols when they return. S1 will remain in the school grounds until the September weekend.
Q5 Will school transport be provided?
Transport will be available as normal. You should have been notified by SPT of pick up times.
Q6 Will pupils wear school uniform?
Pupils will wear full uniform unless participating in PE. S5/6 pupils now have a new kilt as part of our uniform. Please note the kilt is for S5/6 pupils only. Pupils should report to PE on Monday in full school uniform. As of Tuesday pupils must wear full school uniform unless participating in practical PE. ShouldS3-S6 pupils have a theory period of PE they should wear school uniform on that day. When they have practical PE days they will be permitted to wear their PE kit to school. Changing rooms are still not available.
Q7 How will pupils move around the school?
Corridors remain divided by a yellow line. Pupils should stay left of this line at all times. S1 pupils will be escorted to/from class a few minutes early for the first few weeks.
Q8 Will mitigations still be in place?
Yes we have been instructed to have the same mitigations as prior to our summer break i.e. pupils and staff will wear masks at all times unless exempt; pupils and staff will sanitise hands on entry and exit from the building and classrooms; desks and keyboards will be cleaned down at the end of each session; staff will remain 2m from all pupils and from each other.
All of these arrangements are subject to change depending on updates from the Scottish Government and South Lanarkshire Council through the next six week period. Below is the letter from South Lanarkshire Councils Executive Director (Education Resources), Tony McDade.
I will inform you of any further changes.
Thank you,
Skayne Dodds
