St Andrews 6K - Your way
During what has been a very tough year for all of our community, charities have been particularly hard hit. During the last year and a half we have not been able to fund raise in the usual ways and this has impacted some of those charities which we hold dear. One of these is the St Andrews hospice.
Annually, in September, the hospice invite schools to take part in a 6K around Strathclyde park to raise funds. This is typically for S5 and S6 pupils. This year they have launched the “6K your way” to allow schools to take part in school where mitigations can be managed.
We are pleased to announce that Calderside will be taking part in the 6K Challenge with all pupils utilising time in PE to complete laps of the pitches and raise funds. A time table is below. By Friday 1st October all pupils will have been given the chance to take part.

It is hoped we can raise lots of money for the hospice. If every pupil can bring in £1 then that will be £1300 for the hospice. I have setup a just giving page for donations to come to. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/caldersideacademy-standrews6k
- There is no minimum donation for pupils to take part
- Cash will also be collected on the day when people are taking part
- We hope to turn it into a house event and discussions have taken place about potential prizes for register class with highest number of laps
-
This will be the first major house event of the year. If pupils can wear the colours of their house this would be great.
(Arran – Red, Lewis – Green, Mull – Yellow, Skye – Blue)
No football colours
- Special Senior only event on Wednesday 29th where pupils will be timed and we will have our overall winner
- Sports Leaders and the Employability group will help to promote and facilitate which will contribute towards their qualifications
I hope that we can all enter into the spirit of it and get behind a wonderful charity. Huge thanks to Mr Crossan and Mrs Gillespie for their help and in offering the services of the two groups to help with the running of the event.
Thanks
Jim
